I did a post over on my blog about these boots earlier in the week, but I wanted to do a before-and-after type shot. The chukkas really impressed me in Wales - I never wore socks with them and was warm and toasty in the 50 degree temps and constant rain. And when the clouds broke and the sun came out, I was rocking a pleasantly weathered suede boot. Hell, I got back to New York yesterday and wore them - I can't stop. I will pick up a new pair though, as these are now honorably designated my tailgating boots...

Ryder Cup Tested

I wore this Luxury Blend 1/4 zip nearly every day in Wales. This thing saw some serious Ryder Cup action - not to mention some radical weather. The first few practice rounds I went to the course carrying jackets and rain pants and whatever else I thought I might need for that day's celestial lottery, but eventually I gave up on trying to guess what was coming next - and just wore this over a PM sun-washed long sleeve polo shirt and a scarf.

Tuesday evening as we left the course, the skies opened up and I got blasted, no umbrella. Lesser sweaters would have folded under the pressure, but this baby held up and by the time we were back on the shuttle bus and I had a chance to get my bearings, I noticed that I was completely dry underneath - I'm guessing this may have had something to do with the nylon wind shield? An hour later I was in Cardiff and looking more than presentable for dinner, never having changed. Now, that's a transitional piece of clothing...

Rickie makes not one, but two putts on the 18th hole to capture crucial halves for the US side and handles arguably some of the biggest pressure on the shoulders of any American player. I, for one, look forward to seeing this kid in Ryder Cups for years to come...

Manic Monday

It was quite the finish earlier today at the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor - a day of massive grinding and heroics on both the US and European sides came to a close when Graeme McDowell closed out Hunter Mahan on the 17th hole in the final match of the day. What a week: from the weather, to the controversy, this was everything a Ryder Cup should be. I would like to offer a large amount of support for Corey Pavin and the US team for making what could have been a European route into the nail-bitingest Cup in the last 10 years.

I'm not sure whether it was the fact I spent most of the week behind "enemy" lines in Wales or just what I chose to take from everything that was coming out of the US media, but I felt like this US Ryder Cup team, in general, dealt with more negative press and more seething doubt than any before it. Granted, I probably haven't been in the trenches long enough to make that call, but feeling remains...

Whether it was calling Pavin into question for his or his wife's choices regarding team equipment, questioning his leadership, or just plain questioning, perhaps we can blame the bad weather on giving even our own media a chance to stew too much on things that in the end didn't matter. We played fantastic today, we looked great, we carried ourselves like we should have and we almost won this damn thing. I hope today helped get people behind our guys again in a way that just wasn't there earlier in the week.

Moving on, as has been said by my colleague Annmarie over at Khaki Crusader , this black cashmere look today was the best of the week. I was incredibly happy to see it pulled off with such charisma and poise by a US Team that has everything to be proud of leaving Wales tonight.

Sunday's Attire

For those that had an issue with the outright boldness of the cardigan in today's matches, you should find everything you're looking for in the clean and modern look of tomorrow's attire. It actually has almost the feeling of something the Euros might wear - save for the patriotic ribbon belt. The cashmere pullover has great detailing like the red trim on the zip and the black slacks will have the US team looking sleek and monochromatic... That is, unless it rains. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

When we saw the looks back in early September in New York, this was probably my favorite look. Guys like Rickie Fowler, Hunter Mahan and Zach and Dustin Johnson will wear this well. Once again, it's a little break from the norm from what we've seen in the last 15 years of United States Ryder Cup uniforms and I think that can only be a good thing. It's fresh, it's updated, it's battle-ready. Now if the same can be said for the US players tomorrow, hopefully we'll get off to a good jump and start chipping into those overnight Euro leads!

Attention to Detail... At Celtic Manor and in Outerwear

One thing I've been impressed with all week is the level of quality and attention to detail that went into the preparation for the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor. The concessions, the merchandise tent, the pavilions - save for a 10 minute lapse in TV coverage when things were really getting tense in the morning matches! Haha - were all top notch, in my opinion.

The merchandise tent featured small pop-up shops from both Rolex and Canali - two sponsors of the event - and the Canali shop featured some pretty cool logo'd and non-logo'd merchandise like a beautiful quilted vest with a cashmere lining and hip pockets with flaps. Can't imagine a better layering piece, given the intermittent weather of these 2010 matches. Another lusted after piece was a travel blazer in tan nylon with soft shoulders.

Why do Italians do transitional and movement-oriented outerwear so well? I know that's something that Peter Millar founder Chris Knott consistently pays attention to, even partnering with outerwear and cashmere powerhouse Loro Piana to utilize its' patented "Storm System" technology.

The attention to detail and Italian sensibility can be found on a piece like this Bruno jacket - check out the hand-stitching, the tone-on-tone elbow patches and the suede under collar. (Pardon the wrinkles, it's been in my travel bag, but at least we're authentic, here.) This jacket is 100% percent waterproof.

Making natural materials weather-proof so they can look good year round? Leave it to the Italians... and now, Peter Millar...

What an Electric Day...

As a golf fan, nothing can possibly prepare you for the electricity of the first tee at a Ryder Cup - I had my morning coffee doing spin cycles in my stomach - can't image how the players must feel. When the European players would come down off the bridge from the putting green and make their way over to the tee, it was like two gladiators entering the Colosseum - the sheer crush of noise was staggering. The faithful patrons were chanting and singing songs like, "There's only two Molinaris, only two Molinaris..." while as one of 5 or 6 (at most) US fans in the surrounding area, I made sure to chime in with calls for "Phillllll" etc. There was one guy, god bless 'em, that kept standing up and giving it back to the European fans - to which the hecklers would reply "You've only got one song!" Brilliant stuff. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to attend a regular PGA Tour event again after this.

The sun was shining and the boots were muddy from yesterday's deluge at Celtic Manor as I followed a few of the matches. I found myself immediately impressed by Rickie Fowler's composure in his first Ryder Cup, playing alongside Jim Furyk. I would be fortunate enough at the end of the day to also see them come up 18, where Rickie would hole a putt to halve the match with Westwood and Kaymer.

Rickie was one of the guys who was really wearing the beautiful cashmere cardigan ensemble well - keeping it youthful. Another was Zach Johnson. (Both chose the sleeveless option.) I was happy to see one of the bolder options from the lineup of PM apparel get to come out today. Say what you will about the color of the cardigans, but I've been just sick of seeing red, white and blue on guys for a week. I am a huge fan of the risk the PGA, the Pavins and PM took with doing something a little different and totally pulling it off.

With Sun Mountain taking a fair share of flak for the "performance issues" with their team rain suits yesterday, it was also nice to see the weather clear up and be on with it, although I'm sure we're going to see our fair share of rain these next two days before the matches are completed.

Stylish Spectators!

One of the coolest things, for us, about watching golf in another country is seeing the differences in how fans approach the game and how they dress for the occasion. In the UK, patrons are expecting to experience constant change in weather, but many also seek to reflect a certain amount of their personal style with their choices.

The resulting looks are based around fantastic outerwear, waterproof shoes and boots - "flippers" - and great layering pieces like shetland wool sweaters, cashmere and quilted vests and scarves - lots of scarves!

Below is a small sampling of the people we saw taking in the action at Celtic Manor on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We can find more inspiration here than we ever could looking through a magazine or catalog!

Wales Weather Calls for Transitional Pieces...

The scene at Celtic Manor upon arrival was everything you'd expect from a European-hosted Ryder Cup. The crowds were large, the patrons knowledgeable and the energy undeniable... And this was only Tuesday!

The boys from Team USA looked crisp in blue and white ribbon striped shirts and charcoal trousers on what would be the first of 3 days of practice rounds. We are already learning that weather will be an enormous factor in these Ryder Cup matches - with Wales' weather as finicky as it comes. We at the PM team have quickly developed a mantra that we can expect rain at least once daily and dressing in a transitional and layered manner is absolutely crucial!

The same can be said for the players, as they are all equipped with both long and short-sleeved versions of each day's polo shirts and sweaters: the alternate for the long-sleeved sweater being a zip or v-neck merino vest. Check out D.J. sporting the red and white, diamond-patterned vest on Tuesday, below, while Stewart Cink wears the full-sleeve version. (Bottom.)

PM in Wales for the 2010 Ryder Cup

As you guys may know, Peter Millar is the official clothing provider for all United States Team golf shirts, vests and sweaters for the 2010 Ryder Cup. We've put together some iconic American looks for the players, classic, but with a modern sensibility that we feel reflects not only the prestige of these matches, but also does an excellent job of speaking to what our brand does best... Updated American sportswear with just enough International style cues, color and functionality.

Take the look the players will be sporting tomorrow - Saturday of the matches. Steve Stricker Fashions a Record Win at John Deere Classic

Steve Stricker not only came back from an earlier injury to defend his title at the John Deere Classic, he did it in style. He broke the tournament scoring record by 4 shots. Stricker recorded 31 birdies, an accomplishment which ties him for second on the all-time list for birdies in a 72-hole event with John Huston and Phil Mickelson. But that's not all; he also set the PGA TOUR's 54-hole scoring record with a 188.

The buzz has already begun around a potential three-peat, but that's a year away. More immediate is the British Open. Stricker flew direct to Edinburgh from Quad City International Airport via the John Deere Classic charter and is expected to be practicing at St. Andrews sometime Monday. We imagine the adrenaline is still pumping and should make for an exciting week.

Of course, we'd also like to point out his winning day was in our Wing Stripe in sport navy from our fall 2010 collection. Look for it soon.

Todd Martin Up Close and Personal at the US Open

This past week, Todd Martin, President of our Golf Division, had the privilege of joining our partners at NBC Sports supporting one of their hand held RF camera crews for the 110^th United States Open at Pebble Beach. Todd worked alongside lead camera man Dan Beard, who also happens to be the son of legendary golfer Frank Beard, and USGA officials Randy Olmstead and Ron Ripley. “It was an incredible experience working with Dan and the team. A once in a lifetime invitation, with a front row seat to our national championship.” Peter Millar proudly outfits the NBC Sports golf broadcast and production team, and had several players in the field including Steve Stricker, Jason Dufner, Brendon de Jonge and Ben Curtis.
"The galleries were absolutely electric, and Pebble Beach has never looked better," Martin said. "Being so close to the action, it gives you an even greater appreciation for how difficult the conditions are for a US Open and just how talented these players are. I cannot say enough about Dan Beard and his talents behind the camera, and for everyone at NBC Sports and the job that they do putting on the US Open broadcast. I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone at NBC for letting me be a part of this.”

Hello Kisses from Ciao Bella

You are greeted at the door with graphic lipstick kisses. Inside, there are graphic rain coats, animal print party dresses, and bangles galore.

Ciao Bella Boutique has been a haven for Triangle fashionistas since it opened in October of 2006. Among its selection has been Peter Millar ladies' tops and cashmere sweaters. But when women brought home the goods and husbands saw Peter Millar on the label, they naturally asked, "Where's mine?"

Store owners Sally Grogan and Ali Ciampa responded by introducing menswear in their boutique. While it may initially seem so unexpected, when you see the menswear and women's fashions together in this trendy shop, you see what a great marriage it is. When we visited this week, we saw first-hand what a compelling shopping experience it has created.

Women often shop for their husbands, and now they can do it in a place where they already feel comfortable and where they know they'll get top-notch customer service. When men discover that the Peter Millar line is available there, they can feel confident that the fashion-forward ladies there will make sure they look great in their new apparel.

Be Our Guest: A Visit from Stylish Tar Heels

You know how you sometimes say that some esteemed person needs no introduction and then you proceed to actually do an introduction? Well, we’re going to do that today. In case you aren’t aware, our headquarters are located in the heart of North Carolina, and UNC is practically just down the street from us. So it’s really not a terrible matter of effort for those from Chapel Hill to drop by as our visitors did today.

Dr. Richard Coop is author of the book Mind Over Golf: How to Use Your Head to Lower Your Score. He’s also contributing editor to Golf Magazine. He teaches psychology at UNC, and we were proud to have him over where he took a look at some of the items we have planned for Fall and even what we have in store for next Spring.

Joining him was UNC Coach Roy Williams. We’ve featured him before on some of our social networks wearing a snazzy blue Peter Millar sport coat. He was also quite excited about what we have in store in the future. And with good reason - as the future for him will include much more of our apparel in his closet.

We were pleased we could get a picture with CEO Scott Mahoney and Founder Chris Knott. It was a celebration of Southern hospitality and style. We look forward to their next visit.

Q & A with Quail Hollow Championship's Tournament Director Kym Hougham

In anticipation of next week's PGA Tour stop, the Quail Hollow Championship, we briefly caught up with Tournament Director, Kym Hougham. A favorite stop on the PGA Tour by the Players and fans alike, this year's event will deliver the same world class venue and competition that we have come to expect.

PM: The Quail Hollow Championship is known as one of the best PGA Tour stops....Southern Hospitality at its best! What sort of behind the scenes efforts go on all year long in preparation?
KH: Constant refinement along with information gathered by our surveys to our ticketholders helps us to keep improving our product.

PM: The TW effect -- what does that mean for the tournament and ticket sales?
KH: As you can imagine, when the #1 player in the World commits there is a tremendous interest. It has created a positive impact on ticket sales.

PM: What are the best spots on the golf course to watch shots?
KH: 7 green, 5 green, 8 green, any of our covered seating and the public bleachers on the 18th green.

PM: Wow - another strong field for this year's event! The 2010 Masters Champion, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
KH: We are fortunate that both Players enjoy our golf course and our Tournament. We understand how lucky we are that this is the case.

PM: Since the inauguration of the event in 2003, the Championship has raised over $9.4 million for charity, becoming one of the most prestigious sporting events in the Charlotte region, and has been recognized as one of the top events on the PGA Tour. Can you share any numbers or give a guesstimate of what this year's event will bring?
KH: No idea...

Spring Break in St. Andrews

Burch Wilkes, Director of Penn State PGA Golf Management Program, sent us a great picture today of his students, all handsomely dressed in Peter Millar, from their recent trip to St. Andrews. I asked Burch about the trip and here is what he said:

Twenty-two students in the Penn State PGA Golf Management Program, spent their spring break in St. Andrews, Scotland where they had the chance to play on some of the oldest golf courses in the world, meet with head golf professionals, see different operation styles and learn about the history of golf.

Stationed in St. Andrews for the week, the students spent the majority of their time learning about different golf operations and the history of the sport. Students brushed up on their golf history at the British Golf Museum, which chronicles the evolution of golf, from how ball and club design have changed to ways tournaments have been planned to information on winners of the British Open - the oldest major tournament in the sport.

The students also took the opportunity to play at famous courses in the area. In addition to playing St. Andrews Old Course - which is ranked the second best course outside of the US by Golf Digest - the students took day trips to nearby courses: Muirfield, one of the oldest golf clubs in the world, where the original rules of golf were created; Carnoustie Golf Club, and Crail Golf Club, the seventh oldest in the world.

More Masters Memories

A Masters for all the Ages... that's what I love the most about golf, it truly is a game for all ages to enjoy. From the silver haired Fred Couples to the 16 year old phenom from Italy, Matteo Manessero; this year's Masters proved that despite the generation gaps, there were eagles and birdies to had by all.

And now to hear all about his Master Memories from our newest Junior Correspondent, Jake Stoutland (15 years old):

In my eyes, the 2010 Masters was a huge success. The prestige of this tournament adds to how special it is and always will be. I look so forward to watching it on tv with my Dad. I watch everything from course layout to the player's club selection. What got the Masters so much more attention is that Tiger made his return. It was nice to see him back! There were a few headlines for me this week. I think it was really cool that Fred Couples had quite a good week. He proved that he sure can still compete on the PGA Tour. Also, one of the most memorable and crucial shots of the weekend was hit by the Champion Phil Mickelson. On 13, he drove his ball right into the trees. He had a slight opening in the trees but not big enough to feel comfortable about the shot. He hit a 6 iron and couldn't have hit a better shot. He stuck it on the green to about 10 feet. Personally, I believe Phil Mickelson's daring shot won him the tournament. He gained so much momentum and confidence, even though it didn't look like he needed much more. Phil Mickelson took a lot of chances Sunday that could have resulted in dropped shots but they resulted in birdies and that is how he won. The fact is that Phil Mickelson deserved to win the Masters and he did. Bill Haas had a great first Masters and finished up T26th. Steve Stricker and Jason Dufner both made the cut and tied for 30th. This Masters will always be remembered and dwelled on for years.

Introducing our newest On Tour Junior Correspondent.....Jake Stoutland

Here's what you need to know: Jake is a 9th grader at St Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale and loves everything from golf, fishing and pestering his sister. In addition, he loves wearing his Peter Millar Summer Comfort (for youth) golf shirts! I had the pleasure of meeting Jake a year ago at the PGA Merchandise show and asked him if he would like to contribute to our Blog and Facebook with updates about what is going on his world.

For Jake's first assignment, he gave us a play by play on his recent stint as a standard bearer at the WGC - CA Championship at Doral Resort.

From Jake:

I recently had the opportunity to be a standard bearer at the WGC-CA Championship. The first day I was out at Doral, I had the opportunity to follow Graeme McDowell and Geoff Ogilvy. The tee time was at 11:45 and I got there at 7:00 so I had some time to burn. For the first part of my day I found a spot out at the range and watch each player get their daily practice in. It is so nice to watch each player hit every ball so well, it is amazing. While I was at the range, I saw Butch Harmon working with Stewart Cink. He (Harmon) was sporting a lavender Peter Millar polo. After I got finished out at the range I went to check out the first tee. I caught a few groups before I had to go report to the tent and get ready for my tee time. I got to the tee a couple minutes early. The players teed off and my day began. I learned so much from the players on so many levels. It was a great day. The next day, Sunday, I got to the course at the same time and got the Hunter Mahan and John Senden pairing. This was a 1:05 tee time. I spent the morning at the range and the first tee. By the time I needed to get ready to go to the tee, there were a lot of groups and a considerable amount of people. The day was up and down for Hunter Mahan and he ended up over par on Sunday. John Senden played quite good and ended up 3 under par and tied for eleventh. I had a very productive, educational and enjoyable experience this weekend.

North Carolinians love college basketball, and as a company based in the Old North State, we are no exception. March Madness is in full swing, and so we were not only delighted to see UNC squeeze out a win at the buzzer against Mississippi State on Saturday, we were also proud to note that coach Roy Williams was wearing Peter Millar.

Coach Williams, pictured above, is wearing a Peter Millar sportcoat, light blue with a white windowpane. We think it's a great choice to go with the Carolina Blue working the net. And the white pocket square is a great touch. We congratulate UNC on their game and their Tar Heel style.

Catching up with John Coffman

I had the privledge of speaking with John Coffman this morning and as always, leave the conversation feeling better about the state of the retail industry. Originally founded by George Coffman in 1956, Coffman's Mens Wear has built a strong reputation for carrying the finest in men's fashions, while upholding it's tradition of quality, style and exemplary customer service. While George still remains an active presence at the store, he has gladly passed along the torch to his sons John and Bill. Today - John, Bill, Todd Howell, Doug Williams and Hayes Conley formulate the "dream team" of sales & customer service mavens. In anticipation of next week's Peter Millar trunk show, I wanted to spend a few minutes with John to discuss what's happening in today's market.

I have to preface the conversation highlights with the following: In a time of recent economic collapse, these guys (Coffman's) are aggressively going after new and innovative ways to enhance the ambience of their store, product selection and customer service.

John's thoughts on what's happening currently in the marketplace: "We are cautiously optimistic" .... March is up with Tailored clothing business showing great signs which means Dress furnishings and neckwear have seen movement as well.

John on next week's Trunk show: "There is a lot of newness in the market which gives the (customer) reason to buy. They (customers) have been on the sidelines for the last 8-10 months and are ready to see and purchase new items. Some highlights: new soft shouldered coats, flat front pants - which guys are moving towards quickly, Sean collared knits with trim details, satin washed jersey knits as well as Peter Millar's subtle logoed Double Pique knits with banded sleeves. A lot of great items that are unique and have tremendous value.

If past history is an indicator, then this Spring's trunk show will be a success. With local ECU alum, Chris Knott, Peter Millar's Founder and Designer, taking part -- Coffman's is expecting a great turn out. In addition to the Spring 2010 Collection, Chris will preview the Fall 2010 Collection and give customers a sneak peek of what's to come when the cooler weather returns. John and his team have been busy on the personally calling each and every Peter Millar customer inviting them to the trunk show. Couple old fashioned phone calls with today's social media marketing (Facebook, twitter, etc) - Coffman's is leading the way in todays marketplace of the "new normal".

Look who was spotted in Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue proudly wearing a Peter Millar cap....Mr. Ernie Banks. In case you didn't know, Ernie was a former Major League Baseball Player that played his entire career for the Chicago Cubs (1953-1971). He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.

Banks is regarded as one of the most popular Baseball players in all of Chicago sports history. He was a constant promoter of the Cubs and of daytime play at Wrigley Field. His popularity and positive attitude led to the nicknames "Mr. Cub" and "Mr. Sunshine".

Peter Millar is off to a great start in 2010. Two victories in the first five tournaments of the season, a top-notch list of 16 PGA Tour players and he was recently announced as the official U.S. Ryder Cup Team apparel sponsor.
So, what is it about Peter Millar that people love? It must be the vibrant colors, quality fabrics and traditional styles.

The 2010 collection includes an extended line of bright colors, some of which feature various patterns on the polo plackets. For example, this plain white polo is no longer seen as plain, they’ve added a paisley pattern to the inner part of the placket that extends around the entire neck. This type of detail adds a new element to the once casual white polo and definitely dresses it up.
Peter Millar’s winning combination also was supported when star ambassador Steve Stricker as he won the Northern Trust Open, which moved him into the No. 2 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings. Stricker was wearing the Diagonal Fine Twill Lisle in pomegranate. It’s made with a three-button placket and mercerized, long staple Egyptian cotton and it retails for $98.50.

We are at the PGA Merchandise Show and having a great time meeting Peter Millar fans and creating new ones. The feedback on our line has been incredible. We are very proud of what we have to offer our golf customers to dress them on and off the course.

We have also done a couple of educational seminars in our booth. In addition to being packed, they were also great hits with the crowd. We shared our philosophy on merchandising and provided a very informative session on product education. Now all the attendees are well informed about what makes Peter Millar apparel exceptional.

A Nod On the Fly

On the Fly founder and 2-time finalist in Esquire's "Best Dressed Real Man in America" competition Ami Arad was in New York for the Men's Haberdashery show and stopped to see us. When he posted about his visit, he mentions that he counts us among "our most important brands."

On Arad's Modern Gentleman's Blog over at On the Fly, he not only mentions how well our line has been doing for them, but promises that we will be featured more prominently on their site, especially after our well-received Fall 2010 line ships.

Cashmere, Luxe blend, merino wool, outerwear, and golf shirts are all enthusiastically reviewed on the blog, but the most noteworthy for him appears to be our Fisherman Knit Turtleneck and "the introduction of pieces that incorporate Loro Piana's famed Storm System into wool coats." Of course, we agree that they are both pretty fantastic elements of our collection.

The caddie's role goes way beyond schlepping your clubs; these young men and women will help you play a better game. A good caddie is worth his or her weight in gold. Peter Millar would like to congratulate Mike Kiely of Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland, Ohio for his upcoming Hall of Fame Induction by the Professional Caddies Association for the Caddie Manager Division. Great First Day at the Sony Open in Hawaii

Day 1 at the Sony Open saw 6 people tied on the leaderboard, including our own rookie Troy Merritt who played an impressive -5. The PGA Tour site did a great write up about it: Merritt makes his name known in first PGA TOUR round.

Race for the Fedex Cup

With the start of the race for the Fedex Cup upon us, the big question is who to watch out for this week at the Barclays? Here are a few names to look for this weekend: Webb Simpson, Steve Stricker, Charley Hoffman, Nick Watney, Bill Haas and Troy Matteson. Webb posted an impressive two day total of 134 (66 & 68) to have a two shot lead going in to the weekend. Stay tuned....

Every golfer should have the treat of playing in Scotland, the birthplace of the game. Our good friend, Chris Daylrimple - aka Chico, just got back from a first class trip to Scotland. Playing such golf courses as Royal Dornoch, Chico arrived in style to the first tee via helicopter and sporting a Peter Millar cashmere raker 1/4 zip sweater.

It wouldn't be the British Open without the element of weather threatening the scores. In typical Open fashion, sweaters have made their inital debut for the Fall 2009 Season. Congratulations Steve Stricker - Winner of the 2009 John Deere Classic

Peter Millar would like to congratulate Steve Stricker on his 6th PGA Tour win at the 2009 John Deere Classic. Stricker followed the lowest round of his career with 36 solid holes Sunday to win the tournament by three strokes. This marks Steve's 2nd win in 6 weeks as well as a 2nd place spot in the Fedex Cup standings behind Tiger Woods.

We have a future tour player in the works with Simms Abney's recent win at the Country Club of Jackson Junior Championship. Simms was the reigning champion for the 9 and under division. We had a great time at Grand Central Terminal last week for the Golf Digest U.S. Open Viewing Experience. Although the weather proved tough for the tour players, Grand Central was bustling with people making their daily commutes and stopping by to see the Viewing Experience. Jack Nicklaus stopped by to speak with ESPN sports radio. Pictured above is our display of U.S. Open logoed apparel featured within Vanderbilt Hall.

Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge

Be sure to tune in to the Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge this Sunday at 2pm ET (prior to the final round of the U.S. Open).

As you may know, the premise of this Challenge came about a couple of years ago when Tiger Woods made the comment 'A 10 - handicap couldn't break 100 here' on the U.S. Open golf course. The very next day Golf Digest came up with the Challenge and now into it's 2nd year with celebrities and athletes, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jordan and Ben Roethlisberger. The amateur slot was filled by Larry Giebelhausen, a 59 year old Phoenix police officer.

We were fortunate to be a part of this event again for the 2nd year in a row by being asked to outfit the amateur player. This year Larry (the amateur) will be wearing our Mint/Citron classic stripe lisle with a Sean (tailored) collar. Due to the weather, he wore our Silk/Cotton/Cashmere v-neck sweater in Citron. This sweater is perfect for the summer months because it's lightweight and you never get the "itchy" factor which allows you to wear the sweater all day -- without feeling the need to shed a layer.

Although Larry didn't break 100 -- he survived the round with a great attitude and perseverance. Jordan, Timberlake and Roethlisberger all rose to the challenge and successfully broke 100. Be sure to tune in this Sunday to see the entire round of golf!

Just got back from meeting with a few of our Tour players at the Memorial Tournament. Currently they are sporting our Spring 2009 collection and will start transitioning into the latest designs from our Fall 2009 collection later this summer. Peter Millar would like to congratulate Steve Stricker on his win at the 2009 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club. Steve emerged from a 3-way playoff as the winner with a birdie on the second playoff hole (17th). This marks Steve's fifth win on the PGA Tour.
